Meet The St. Olav Staff
St. Olav Church Minister: Peter Wessels and his wife Debbie
Who Are We?
We are a Word centred church. The Bible occupies a central place in our denomination which is expressed in our motto: “God's word above all things”. We read and preach from the scriptures every week in our services and Bible Study groups.
Peter & Debbie Wessels have served at St Olav for 12 years. They have just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. They have two children, Steven who lives and works in Johannesburg, and Natalie, just recently engaged to be married to Bradley early next year.
Peter has been in ministry for 35 years, serving congregations in Pinetown, Albert Park and Randburg.
Debbie is an avid road runner, having completed 4 Comrades marathons as well as many standard marathons.
She heads up the ladies Bible study/prayer ministry as well as a craft group called Happy Hands, where countless knitted/crochet items are made and given to those in need.
Arthur Ivey is the Treasurer/Administrator of St Olav, a position he has filled for 12 years.
He is also part of the worship team.He lived in Jerusalem, Israel for 6 years, serving as the Administrator for the International Christian Embassy, before joining the church in Durban.
Sandy Galbraith is the church secretary, she is our lovely ‘window to the world’ and has been a member of St Olav for 25 years.
She is very talented in flower arranging, and catering for various events in the church. Her husband Bruce went to be with the Lord in 2008.
She is the mother of two sons, one living in the USA and one living in Byrne Village, Natal.
Larissa Clark is the Children’s Church leader.
She has served in this capacity for a number of years, faithfully serving our children as she seeks to bring them into a saving knowledge of the Lord.
Children’s church is held each Sunday morning from 9.30-10.30 am
What do we believe?
The Bible occupies the primary place of authority in our denomination. This is expressed in our motto: ‘God’s word above all things’.
We believe in the right of every believer to read, understand and obey the Scriptures.
We believe in the Great Commission. Jesus is the only way of salvation for the world. Therefore, we are Evangelistic and Missionary in our outlook.
Who We Support
Dong Sik & Geum Ok Byun
Recently Geum Ok and Dom Sik brought their Bible study/sewing group to church for two reasons:
1). To expose them to the gospel
2). To hand out bags of much needed maize meal and rice.
This dear couple brought a PowerPoint presentation in which they showed the Bible study group meeting outdoors (because of COVID regulations), and gave a report of their children’s ministry showing the booklets Geum Ok uses to reach the children with God’s word.
